Nursing homes in Oklahoma are in danger of losing staff or Medicare and Medicaid funding following pressure from the Biden administration to issue vaccination mandates.

Oklahoma could begin Phase 2 as soon as next week. Among those eligible to be vaccinated in Phase 2 are additional health care workers, first responders, teachers, adults age 65 and older, and adults of any age with serious underlying medical conditions.
The private health care company will vaccinate an estimated 27,204 patients at 176 long-term care facilities across the state.

The COVID-19 death toll at Oklahoma nursing homes and other long-term care facilities has surpassed 500. Hardest hit has been the Claremore Veterans Center, with 35 deaths.

The revised guidelines, announced Wednesday, aim to balance safety during the COVID-19 pandemic and worries about the effects of prolonged social isolation for those living in nursing homes.
