The Senate is expected to take up the American Health Care Act, the House’s plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Oklahoma hospitals would lose more than $25 million in one year under the AHCA, according to projections from the Chartis Center for Rural Health. Nine rural hospitals in Oklahoma have filed for chapter 9 bankruptcy since 2011 and three have closed. Communities where hospitals have closed often face long wait times for ambulance service.
