For almost four years, Tulsa blogger and adventurous eater Sasha Martin has been creating recipes from all over the world in her kitchen, with the goal of creating 196 dishes from 196 countries for her family.

On Saturday, Martin invites guests to "eat the world" during the Global Table Experience in partnership with Philbrook Museum of Art. From 1 to 3 p.m., guests will have the chance to sample cuisine from Martin's 196-country culinary journey.

The Global Table Experience will be held in the Philbrook Garden, where families are invited create their own picnic by sampling dishes from 175 countries prepared by some of the most outstanding chefs in town.

Each week on Martin's blog, globaltableadventure.com, she has shared a new, internationally inspired recipe that she created using ingredients found in her local grocery store. The blog, however, has a deeper meaning for Martin.

"The Global Table Adventure is a place where I share the one thing that unites us and that drives our individuality — food," Martin said. "And by learning about the food, I can enrich my family's meals by celebrating every culture."

The event is part of the monthly Philbrook Second Saturdays, when museum admission is free, presented by ONEOK Inc. The Global Table Experience benefits the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, and a donation of at least one can of nonperishable food is suggested.

To Martin, the upcoming Global Table Experience is meant to be "a peace statement and a living art that's never before been attempted," with the goal of having tastings from 175 countries. Martin's project caught the attention of National Geographic, which is publishing her forthcoming memoir about the experience.

Tasting is limited to a first-come, first-served basis. At 2 p.m. Martin will chat about the project with a special guest from National Geographic.
