Friends and family will remember the life and work of Tulsa author, artist and historian Lee Roy Chapman on Wednesday.
Chapman, 46, died last week. A memorial service is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Cain’s Ballroom, 423 N. Main St. The service is open to the public.
Chapman was well known in Tulsa for his knowledge of the state’s and the city’s history, from Bob Wills and The Sex Pistols at Cain’s Ballroom to the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot. He wrote about them as a freelance journalist and contributing editor to This Land Press. He also teamed up with others to create an art installation in 2011 about the Tulsa-shot “Rumblefish.”
Wednesday’s service will feature several speakers who will talk about Chapman’s legacy and his life.
A memorial fund has been established to help Chapman’s family. Donations can be made at gofundme.com/leeroychapman.
