Ambassador Hotel Tulsa, 1324 S. Main St., has been named a Top 25 hotel in the United States by the TripAdvisor’s 2018 Travelers’ Choice rankings.
The 10-story, Mediterranean-style hotel dates to 1929, when Gen. Patrick Hurley built Oklahoma’s first extended-stay hotel, designed to provide upscale housing for oil barons while their mansions were being built.
In 1960, the property transformed into an apartment hotel and later became home to retired seniors before closing in 1987. Developer Paul Coury purchased the property 10 years later and reopened the hotel in 1999 after a $5.5 million renovation.
The Ambassador also won a Travelers’ Choice award in 2017.
Among other hotels on the list are French Quarter Inn, Charleston, South Carolina; Saratoga Arms, Saratoga Springs, New York, and Hotel Wailea, Wailea, Hawaii. For a complete list, go to tripadvisor.com/TravelersChoice-Hotels.
