After an unsuccessful attempt by Oklahoma Democrats to get a vote on Senate Bill 1086, teachers in the chamber for Tuesday's walkout began chanting "fund our schools."
The bill would have brought in $70-$100 million by eliminating capital gains tax credit.
Rep. Josh Cockroft, R-Wanette, ordered ushers and troopers to clear the galleries during the chants. However, he later relented.
SB1086, by Sen. Dave Rader, R-Tulsa, passed in the Senate by a vote of 30-10.
The credit gives those who sell certain property or stock a tax break under certain conditions, Oklahoma Policy Institute Executive Director David Blatt said.
It has cost Oklahoma about $450 million but only generated $9 million in benefit to the state, Rader said.
“This is an extremely expensive tax break benefiting very few, mostly ultra-wealthy taxpayers,” Blatt said.

Rader said elimination of the tax credit would bring in about $120 million annually to the state.
