Troopers recovered the body of a 30-year-old Quinton man who jumped into Skiatook Lake on Friday afternoon and never resurfaced.

Nicolas William Birckel reportedly jumped off of a boat to swim in the lake about 2:15 p.m., according to the release. When Birckel went under the water, he did not resurface.

Troopers used a drag bar to search the lake and found Birckel’s body Saturday in 25 feet of water, according to the release.

OHP investigators are working to determine the cause, as well as Birckel’s condition when he jumped into the lake.

He wasn’t wearing a personal flotation device, investigators said.
