Six years ago today, the WNBA announced that owners voted unanimously to approve the Tulsa Shock’s move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The Shock would finish out the 2015 season in Tulsa and relocate to the College Park Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington.
“The WNBA is extremely grateful to the city of Tulsa and the team’s loyal fans. The support they have shown for the Shock and women’s professional basketball over the past six seasons has been tremendous,” WNBA President Laurel J. Richie said in a release at the time. “We look forward to having our first team based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.”
The Shock moved to Tulsa from Detroit in 2010. The franchise's final season in Tulsa was also its best in the city, with a 18-16 record and playoff berth. Since the franchise left Tulsa and became the Dallas Wings, it has not had a winning record.
