Election deadline: Early walk-in voting is available Thursday and Friday at the Creek, Rogers and Wagoner county election boards for the Oct. 10 bond elections in Catoosa and Pretty Water.
Catoosa Public Schools has a $9 million proposal that would pay for additional classrooms at the new Catoosa Elementary School that is currently under construction.
A dependent district on Sapulpa’s northwest side, Pretty Water has a two-part proposal totaling $975,000. Proposition No. 1 would provide $850,000 for a new roof, new awnings, restroom upgrades and other improvements to Building No. 1, which houses the district’s kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms, cafeteria, gym and business office. Proposition No. 2 would provide $125,000 for new vehicles.
Emergency certification count: Without discussion or debate, the Oklahoma State Board of Education approved 850 emergency teaching certificates at Thursday’s meeting. Since the start of the current fiscal year on July 1, the board has approved 3,291 emergency certificates.

By comparison, the board approved 4,410 emergency certificates during the entire previous fiscal year.
School help: Applications are now open for the Osage Nation Education Department’s Financial Assistance Services Program. Osage students in prekindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to receive $250 toward the cost of school clothes, school supplies and technology needs. There is no geographic restriction for eligibility, but students must include verification of school enrollment with their applications.
Cultural night: Catoosa Public Schools will host a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the district’s multipurpose dome.

In order to receive the seal on their high school diploma, a student must demonstrate proficiency in at least two languages. Since the 2018-19 school year, 352 TPS students have earned the seal in both English and at least one of 16 languages. Other languages spoken by previous years’ honorees include Bangla, Chinese, Finnish, French, German, Hmong, Indonesian, Japanese, Latin, Korean, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Yoruba and Zomi.
College Board kudos: Three Edison Preparatory students have earned academic honors through the College Board National Recognition Programs.
To be considered, students have to have at least a 3.5 GPA and have either excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or earned a score of 3 or higher on at least two Advanced Placement exams. Additionally, students must be Black, Indigenous or Hispanic and/or attend school in a rural area or a small town to be considered.
Brooklyn Chavez and Denise Dominguez received the National Hispanic Recognition Award, and Gabriella Ross earned the National African American Recognition Award.
Stay home days: Monday is a distance-learning day for Coweta. Classes are not in session Monday at Kiefer.
Friday is a distance-learning day for Broken Arrow, Catoosa and Glenpool. Classes are not in session for Tulsa Honor Academy that day.
School board calendar: The boards of education for Kiefer, Sand Springs and Tulsa are scheduled to meet Monday.
The Lone Star board is scheduled to meet Tuesday.
The Pretty Water board is scheduled to meet Thursday.
