Tulsa County has a new assessor for the first time in 16 years.
Deputy County Assessor John Wright defeated Darren Gantz in the Republican primary on Tuesday to become the next assessor. He succeeds Ken Yazel, who did not seek re-election.
No Democrat filed for the seat.
“We are dedicated to serving the citizens on a daily basis, and it is an honor to be entrusted by the voters to lead the office,” Wright said.
In Tuesday’s other county race, former Collinsville Mayor Stan Sallee defeated Tracey Wilson in the Republican primary for County Commission District 1. Sallee will face Democrat Kevin Matthews in the Nov. 6 general election.
The District 1 seat was vacated earlier this year when former Commissioner John Smaligo resigned to take a job in the private sector.

“We’re very excited and pleased with the turnout, and we’re ready for the general,” Sallee said.
With all 262 precincts in the county reporting, Wright had 53.79 percent of the vote, and with all 80 District 1 precincts reporting, Sallee had 66.58 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Tulsa County Election Board.
