The Sooner Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation held its 14th annual Tulsa’s New Leaders fundraising event Friday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, honoring 36 young professionals who exemplify leadership qualities, are active in volunteer roles and contribute to the Tulsa business community.

The 2016 honorees are:

Matt Akins, ONEOK, Inc.; Nicole Allen, The Mayo Hotel; Sarah Alsdorf, Station 8 Branding; George Apfelbach, Kaiser Francis Oil Co.; Jamie Battaglia, Party Pro Rents; Taylor Billings, Williams Companies; John Bizjack, Wells Fargo Advisors; Malachi Blankenship, The University of Tulsa; Elisabeth Blue, Toomer Oil Co.; Sarah Boone, Grant Thornton, LLP; and Andrew Brown, The Resource Group.

Each honoree received an award from the CF Foundation, a commendation from Gov. Mary Fallin and a letter of congratulations from Mayor Dewey Bartlett.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people who have the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatments, and ensuring access to high quality, specialized care.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive systems. An estimated 30,000 children and adults in the United Stated have the disease.

Each honoree is required to raise $4,000 in donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
