A 52-year-old man was fatally shot early Friday after he reportedly tried to break into a home that was occupied by his ex-girlfriend, Tulsa police said.
Just before 3 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of East 50th Place to investigate a 911 call placed by a woman who said she had shot her ex-boyfriend, Cpl. Chris Butterfield said.
The woman told detectives she was at the home with her current boyfriend when they heard loud banging on the back door.
She grabbed a pistol and shot the intruder after he forced his way inside the residence, Butterfield said.
He made it from the back door to the front entryway, where police found him lying with a gunshot wound on his upper left side.
The man, whose name was not released Friday, was later pronounced dead at the scene, Butterfield said.
The caller said she didn’t know at first that the intruder was her ex-boyfriend, thinking it was a burglar, he said.
Police said the man had a history of stalking and was described by the woman as “very obsessive.”
Detectives took the woman to police headquarters for questioning, although it was believed she will not be charged, according to police.
