Lester E. Smith Lester Edward Smith departed this life on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at his home at the age of 80. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs. Funeral Service was held 2 p.m., Friday, June 15, at Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service Chapel with his nephew, Jeff Schwickerath, officiating. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Army followed at Woodland Memorial Park. Visitation was held 12-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. The son of Jesse Noble Smith and Lucy (Hudspeth) Smith was born July 17, 1937, in Berryville, AR. When Lester was a child, the family moved to Sand Springs. Growing up, he helped at his father's salvage yard, and later went to work as a welder at Porcelain Steel. Lester served in the U.S. Army. On June 6, 1957, he married the love of his life, Lois Marie Phipps in Sapulpa. They made their home in Sand Springs where they raised their five children: Peggy, Vicki, Lee, Vonda, and Lon. Lester always stayed busy. He owned many car lots throughout the years, including Hays and Smith Used Cars and Lake Area Motors. In 2003, Lester and Lois moved to Haskell where they began raising farm animals, including cows, pigs and chickens. He also collected pocket knives, guns and anything of value. Lester could always be found trading, buying and selling because he loved a good deal. Lester and Lois loved to travel on their motorcycle throughout the United States. Lester's door was always open to anyone; and he would not let any person or animal go hungry. He will be remembered for his strong will and determination, as well as his stubbornness and orneriness. Lester is preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Smith; his parents; sisters: Tina Parks and Ederine Harveston; and brother, Terry Smith. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois; children: Peggy Troe of Haskell, Lee Smith and wife, Marina of Haskell, Vonda McDaniel of Haskell, and Lon Smith and wife, Dianna of Jenks; sisters: Claudine Cox of Sand Springs, Carolyn Schwickerath of Sapulpa, Christine Hogner of Sand Springs, and Eva Jean Holt of Sand Springs; brothers: Chester Smith and wife, Hallie of Sand Springs, and Lonnie Smith and wife, Donna of Westville; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
