Arthritis

Lifting weight has been linked with reduced pain and improved flexibility, strength and
balance in people with arthritis, according to recent research. Experts say weightlifting is
good for arthritic joints because as the muscles around the affected joints get stronger, pain
is reduced and function improves. Weightlifting not only eases pain and stiffness, but also
boosts bone strength, helps maintain a healthy body weight and improves balance as one’s
core gets stronger. Consult with your doctor before starting and work with a trainer to learn
proper form. Ease into it; don’t overdo it. Less weight and more reps is often better.
